Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas: the short answer

Two parts of the Grand Canyon are realistic day trips from the Strip. Grand Canyon West, the West Rim, is the closest. It lies on Hualapai tribal land outside the national park and is where you find the Skywalk. The South Rim is the national park side with the classic views, but it is about twice as far.

That distance shapes every Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas. By bus, the West Rim is a long day and the South Rim a very long one. By plane or helicopter, you trade money for hours. Our advice: if you want the iconic national park panorama and can afford it, fly to the South Rim. On a tighter budget or schedule, the West Rim by bus works well.

West Rim or South Rim from Las Vegas?

Grand Canyon West is about 125 miles from Las Vegas via US-93, Pierce Ferry Road and Diamond Bar Road. The roads are paved. You leave your vehicle at the Welcome Center and a hop-on, hop-off shuttle takes you to Eagle Point, home of the Skywalk, and Guano Point. Tickets are sold by Grand Canyon West, not the National Park Service, so national park passes don't apply. Details in our Skywalk and West Rim guide.

The South Rim is 278 miles away via Kingman, I-40 and Williams, according to the NPS. This is the national park: Mather Point, the Rim Trail and the views that made the Grand Canyon famous. Bus tours give you a few hours there, typically with stops at one or two viewpoints and Grand Canyon Village.

Here the 2026 fees matter. Every non-US resident aged 16 and over now pays a $100 nonresident fee on top of the regular entrance fee (as of 2026). Tours that list "park entrance included" may or may not cover that extra $100, so check the tour details before you book. At Grand Canyon West, the national park fee does not apply, but its own tickets and tribal taxes do.

Not sure which rim suits you? Our Grand Canyon tours comparison covers both, plus the North Rim.

On the road: Hoover Dam and time zones

Two things that catch first-time visitors out on the drive east.

Hoover Dam stops

US-93 crosses the Colorado River right next to Hoover Dam, so both routes pass it. Many bus tours include a short photo stop, others only show it from the bypass bridge. If the dam matters to you, check whether a stop is listed.

Time zones

Nevada observes daylight saving time, Arizona does not. From March to early November, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon show the same time. In winter, Arizona is one hour ahead. In 2026, daylight saving ends on 1 November.

Early starts

South Rim bus tours usually pick up before sunrise. Plane tours depart from Boulder City, so expect a transfer from your hotel first.

Weather

The South Rim sits at about 2,100 m and can have snow in winter, while Las Vegas is mild. Bring a warm layer from November to March.

What to check before you book

Two tours with similar titles can be very different days.

Which rim?

"Grand Canyon" in the title can mean the West Rim or the South Rim. Look for the rim in the itinerary, not the headline.

Fees and Skywalk

For the South Rim, is the entrance included, and the $100 nonresident fee? For the West Rim, is the Skywalk included or only general admission?

Time at the canyon

Compare hours at the rim, not total hours. A long tour can still mean a short visit.

Weight rules

Helicopter and small-plane operators weigh passengers at check-in and may require an extra seat above a set weight. See our helicopter guide.

Grand Canyon from Las Vegas: frequently asked questions

How far is the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas?

Grand Canyon West is about 125 miles away, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by road. The South Rim is 278 miles away, about 4.5 hours each way without stops.

Is the West Rim worth it compared to the South Rim?

It is the faster option and has the Skywalk and helicopter landings below the rim. The South Rim offers the broader, classic national park views. If you only have one day and no wish to fly, the West Rim is the more relaxed trip.

Do Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas include the entrance fee?

Many do, but check what that covers. For the South Rim, the 2026 nonresident fee of $100 per person aged 16+ may be extra. For the West Rim, check whether the Skywalk is included.

Is Arizona on the same time as Las Vegas?

From March to early November, yes. Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, so in winter it is one hour ahead of Las Vegas.

Can I see the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam on the same day?

Yes. Hoover Dam is on the way to both rims, and many tours include a photo stop there.
