The Grand Canyon Skywalk at a glance

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped glass bridge at Eagle Point, part of Grand Canyon West. It opened to the public on 28 March 2007, is 10 feet wide and reaches 70 feet beyond the rim, with what the operator describes as about 4,000 feet of air to the canyon floor below.

Grand Canyon West is not part of Grand Canyon National Park. It lies on the Hualapai Reservation and is run by the tribe, with its own tickets, rules and shuttle. National park passes are not valid here, and the national park's 2026 nonresident fee does not apply. It is the closest part of the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas and a popular day trip from the Strip.

Eagle Point, Guano Point and more

Private cars stay at the Welcome Center. A free hop-on, hop-off shuttle, accessible for wheelchairs, links the viewpoints.

Eagle Point

Home of the Skywalk, with paved paths, a restaurant and a gift shop. The name comes from a rock formation known from Hualapai oral history as the eagle.

Guano Point

For many visitors the best view at Grand Canyon West. The Highpoint Hike is a moderate climb to wide views of the canyon and the Colorado River, and an easy trail leads to the remains of an old guano mine.

Hualapai Point

The third stop on the shuttle loop. The all-access ticket includes Hualapai guided narration, exhibits and song and dance performances.

Timing

The operator names 11 am to 3 pm as peak hours on the Skywalk. Arrive early, or use the cheaper Sunset Pass after 3 pm.

Skywalk rules: what you can take onto the glass

The rules on the bridge are strict, mainly to protect the glass and to stop anything falling into the canyon. According to Grand Canyon West in October 2026:

  • No bags or cameras: purses, backpacks and cameras are not allowed on the Skywalk. Free lockers are available on arrival.
  • Phones: currently allowed, at your own risk. Do not hold your arm out over the railing to take pictures.
  • Shoes: you keep your shoes on, with protective booties over them.
  • Photos: professional photographers on the bridge sell prints and digital bundles.

These rules have changed over the years, so follow the signs and staff on the day. If you are nervous about heights, the views from Guano Point are just as impressive, and on solid rock.

How to get to the Grand Canyon Skywalk

By car from Las Vegas: about 125 to 130 miles via US-93 south, Pierce Ferry Road and Diamond Bar Road, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours. The main roads are paved and fine for normal cars. Enter "Grand Canyon West" in your navigation, and if it sends you to Peach Springs, update your route. Fill up on US-93 or in Dolan Springs; inside Grand Canyon West, fuel is meant for emergencies only.

From Kingman and Phoenix: Kingman is about 79 miles away and the easiest start from within Arizona. From Phoenix, the operator gives about four hours.

On a tour: bus and helicopter tours from Las Vegas are the most common way to visit, often with a Hoover Dam stop on the way. Compare the options in our guide to Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas and our helicopter guide. Check whether the Skywalk is in the ticket or only general admission. A tour titled just "Grand Canyon" may also mean the South Rim, which has no Skywalk.

Hours and time zone: doors open at 8 am, and the last tickets are usually sold at 4:30 pm, later in summer. Times are Arizona time, which matches Las Vegas from March to early November and is one hour ahead in winter.
